Kyiv is the city where the new and the ancient make wonderful chances for historical and aesthetic tourism. Nevertheless, before you visit this mythical city, take your time to figure out at least 2 things: accommodation and transport.

Let us discuss choosing a place to stay. Start by considering what you can afford and your tastes, you could either choose to stay in a Kiev hotel, or rent an apartment. Count the stars on Kiev hotels to estimate the comfort you require and the price you can afford.

The Ukrainian capital has several five and four star hotels. There are virtually tens and tens of less posh Kiev accommodation facilities. A five star hotel is going to cost you around $400-850 per 24 hrs, four star hotels will cost $150-$500, three stars will be about $70-300, 2 stars will cost from $50 to 120 and 1 star hotels cost around 25-100 per night.

There exist also a couple of hostels in the city for youth. In a regular hostel you can find unpretentious but fresh accommodation facilities and several sofas or beds in one room.

If you are looking for an opportunity to save some buck, you can rent an apartment. For the cost of a modest hotel room in the price range of $90-150 you can rent a luxury flat in the downtown. Inexpensive one-room flats may be found for less than $50. Some owners that give for rent such Kyiv apartments may even offer to meet you when you arrive. The rule of thumb of here is to book the flat at least a couple of days in advance.

In case you are tight with funds or want to experience something spicey, you may try renting a sleeping berth inside a train car. There is a train depot not far from the train station ?Karavaevy dachi? where you can negotiate a sleeping place for some $15. Attempt this at your own danger.

Surely few people come to Kyiv to stay indoors. The megalopolis has many great places to visit if you can find your way around. There's nothing to worry about, though. The public transportation is quite appropriate.

The most comfortable way to move around is Kiev taxis. the driver will take you from the airport to wherever you are staying for no more than $35. In fact, for a visitor from the European Union or the US, the Ukrainian taxis should be reasonably inexpensive. It is a pleasure to taxi Kiev around. However, if you do not inrend to use only taxis in Kyiv, the city offers lots of transportation options.

In the first place, it is the metro that can get you almost anywhere in the city. It is very convenient when you travel a long way on the hot hours when there are traffic jams on the roads. Second, you can use buses, trolley busses and trams. These are quite cheep: you pay a fixed fee to go any distance. Nevertheless, they are not very regular. Third, you can travel afoot or use Kiev's special transport - funicular that escalates the bank of Dnieper River. At last, you can just use your feet.

Come visit Kiev. This city disposes of plenty of sights to please an aspiring tourist.
